Juliet O'Barr Studio
A calm, earthy home for a Muscle Activation Techniques practice in McKinleyville — what MAT is, who it helps, and a simple contact card in place of a pushy funnel.
I build small, beautiful websites for one-person businesses — massage therapists, gardeners, makers, healers. Not a template, not a subscription that holds your site hostage. Just a site that sounds like you, that you own outright, cared for by an actual human who writes back.
Over tea or a friendly email thread — whatever's comfortable. You tell me about your work, your people, and what the site needs to do. That's the whole meeting.
A fast, mobile-friendly site designed around your actual practice — your colors, your words, your photos. You see a real draft, not a wireframe, and we shape it together.
The whole site lives in one tidy file under your own account. If we ever part ways, you keep everything and it keeps running. No hostage situations.

My own garden-care business — a whimsical, seasonal site with booking, a photo gallery, and colors that quietly change with the time of year. My working proof.
"If it says it's free, you're the product."
That's the oldest rule of the internet, and it's how most website tools work: "free" and cheap platforms pay for themselves by tracking the people who visit — building advertising profiles out of your clients' clicks, searches, and habits. It has a name: surveillance capitalism. You don't have to participate in it.
Your clients trust you with their bodies, their gardens, their homes. A website should honor that trust the same way — quietly, and completely.

Your site, live and yours. I keep the lights on and fix anything that breaks.
This is you if: your business is steady — same services, same hours, same story. Your site is a beautiful business card that's always right about the basics.
Everything in Planted, plus regular tending so the site grows with you.
This is you if: your prices, hours, photos, or offerings shift through the year, and you want the site to always be right without ever thinking about it.
Everything in Tended, plus features and a direct line whenever you need it.
This is you if: the website is a working part of your business — clients book, browse, and pay through it — and you want a real person who gets right back to you.
Don't want a monthly anything? I build your site, hand over every file, account, and password, and wish you well. It's yours as-is — bring it to any web person on earth (or back to me) whenever it needs changing. No plan, no strings, no hard feelings. And wildflowers are always welcome back — one-off changes happen as flat-rate tending visits, no plan required. (Want online booking? I'll set it up in a scheduling account of your own — about $16/mo paid straight to that tool, like your domain's yearly $12. Still no strings to me.)
Whatever you pick, the site is yours: your files, your accounts, and your web address — bought under your own name, about $12 a year paid straight to the registrar, never through me. Nobody can ever hold your address hostage, me included. And you can pause or cancel the monthly care anytime — the site stays up, and we part as friends.
Yes — completely. The site lives in an account under your name, the domain is registered to you, and the whole thing is one tidy file you could hand to any other web person on earth. When I built Juliet's site, it was designed from day one to be transferred to her outright. That's the standard.
The site stays up, exactly as it is — the monthly covers my tending, not the site's existence. From there you have three easy doors: come back for a flat-rate tending visit whenever something needs changing; if you had online booking through me, I'll move it into a scheduler account of your own (its ~$16/mo becomes yours, paid straight to that tool) so appointments never skip a beat; or we switch booking back to a simple contact card and you pay nothing at all. Your call, no hard feelings, door always open.
They're fine tools that charge rent forever, look like everyone else, and hold your site hostage the day you stop paying. I'd rather build you something faster, more personal, and permanently yours — then charge only for the care you actually want.
You book a tending visit: a flat-rate session where you bring me your pile of changes — new hours, fresh photos, reworded pages — and I work through it. No plan needed, no per-change haggling. If you find yourself booking visits every month, one of the care plans will simply be cheaper, and you can hop on (or off) anytime.
Yes — that's In Bloom territory. I build it on trusted, boring scheduling tools rather than inventing my own, woven in so seamlessly your clients never notice the seams — and I hand you the keys to a simple backend where you set your own hours and manage your own appointments from your phone, no website edit needed. Payments run through Stripe under an account that belongs to you: your clients' money goes straight to you and never passes through me. My job is the wiring, and keeping it humming.
You do — on paper, not just in spirit. Your domain (the yourname.com part) gets bought under your own account, registered to you, about $12 a year paid straight to the registrar. I'll hand you a follow-along guide and I never touch the purchase. It matters because the address is the one piece of a website nobody should ever be able to hold hostage — not a platform, and not me. If we ever part ways, it points wherever you tell it to.
Almost nothing — that's part of the point. Hosting for a hand-built site like this is free, and your domain name (the yourbusiness.com part) runs about $12 a year, paid straight to the registrar under your own account. There is no meter running in the background and no platform fee waiting to surprise you.
The sites are built to be found: they load fast, work beautifully on phones, and are written the way search engines like — all things Google genuinely rewards. On the care plans I also help with local search: making sure your Google map listing, your pages, and your wording match what neighbors actually type when they look for someone like you. What I won't do is promise you'll outrank a national chain — anyone who promises that is selling something.
You'll see a real first draft — your name, your words, a design made for you — within about a week of our first conversation. Most sites are live within two to three weeks, and the slowest part is usually gathering your photos, not the building.
Usually, yes. If you've got an old site, a logo, a shoebox of photos, or just a business card you like, we start from there. If you have nothing but the work itself, that's enough too.
Write a few lines about what you do and what you'd want a website to say for you. I'll reply personally — no forms, no funnels.
